conducts book talks and signings throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. He speaks at bookstores, libraries, universities, private
institutions, retreat centers, and at churches and houses of worship.
Topics have included the author's publications, the holy isle of
Patmos, Eastern Orthodox Iconography, Hesychasm and desert monasticism,
the world religions, art and healing, archaeological sites of interest,
Thomas Merton and Robert Lax Studies.
In the Spring of 2012, Dr. Georgiou taught the first semester-length class on Robert Lax, (Robert Lax: Poet-Mystic-Sage), at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. The class centered on Lax's evolution as a minimalist poet and contemplative. Course content included spiritual, scholastic, and artistic
influences on Lax and especially focused on Lax as hermit, sage, mentor, and peacemaker. The class also featured guest lectures by John Dear, SJ, (peacemaker & author), Jonathan Montaldo, (Thomas Merton scholar), and Gerald Nicosia (Jack Kerouac biographer). Additionally, three noted artists interpreted Lax's poetry through their respective mediums: Debra Classen (painter), Carla de Sola (dancer), and Jacqueline
Chew (pianist). A public performance of Lax's minimalist masterwork "Sea & Sky" (read by S.T. Georgiou; piano interludes by Jacqueline Chew) concluded the course. This was the first integrative reading & musical rendering of the poem since its writing in 1965.
In Spring of 2013, Dr. Georgiou was selected to be "Lax Lecturer" for Robert Lax Lecture Week, (March 4 to 8), at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York, home of the Lax Archives. During this inaugural event, Dr. Georgiou delivered three formal talks on Lax as Poet, Contemplative, and Mentor-Peacemaker. He also spoke about Lax to various classes at the university and gave a talk on the poet at the Olean Public Library.
